P.Ramlee the Musical tells the journey of the greatest entertainment icon in our history, and the presentation and performance is based on the Broadway musical theatre genre.

P.Ramlee’s compositions are presented as medleys while excerpts from his films will form the backdrop and landscape of the presentation. There are at least 14 new compositions by Dick Lee which have been arranged in the styles of pop, ballad, jazz, mambo and in the western musical theatre styles.

A medley of evergreen songs and melodies by P.Ramlee forms the main motif of the musical arrangements as a whole, much like the canvas for new songs which will color the show.

The musical direction will take on the big band sounds, grand orchestra as well as pop and traditional Malay rhythms. Audio recordings via samplers and recorded audio effects will also be used to enhance the overall ambience.

The choreography is a fusion of modern jazz styles, popular cabaret dance, traditional, contemporary as well as experimental dance movements put together for dramatic effect.

Staging, sets, costumes and props will cover three main areas:

First: Pulau Pinang in the 30s and 40s
Second: Jalan Ampas Studies in Singapore in the 50s and 60s.
Third: Kuala Lumpur in the 70s and 80s.

Video Presentation plays an important role in portraying graphics, story montages specially filmed for the musical, clips of P.Ramlee films and as the backdrop to the set.
